Route map of DL 42 from Seattle (SEA) to Rome, Italy (FCO)
Delta Air Lines is racing against Alaska Airlines to launch a new summer nonstop from Seattle to Rome. Delta is in the lead, with SEA-FCO already for sale on delta.com beginning with the inaugural outbound flight on May 6, 2026.
DL 42 promises to be hugely popular with travelers from the Pacific Northwest who up until now have only had nonstop access to northern Europe. Delta’s 11-hour nonstop to Rome will save at least 2 hours versus connecting in Paris, Frankfurt, Dublin or London.
The flight is well timed for travelers who want to take advantage of the early arrival into Rome, giving them the rest of the day to explore or travel onwards to other parts of Italy.

Ratings: routesandmiles.com/ratings
Delta uses an Airbus A330-900neo on SEA-FCO, with 168 seats in Delta Main (Economy) in a 2-4-2 configuration, 56 seats in Delta Comfort, 28 seats in Delta Premium Select and 29 suites in Delta One with lie-flat beds. Economy seats offer a reasonable 31-33 inches of seat pitch.
International Delta Main (Economy) meal service features a three-course menu and a full selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including spirits.
The timing of the outbound flight isn’t ideal in terms of minimizing jet lag (the early afternoon departure means an arrival in Italy at approximately 1:10am Seattle time), but it’s great for travelers who want to make a short trip and maximize their arrival day in Rome. Returning to Seattle, the departure time of 12:20pm is again on the early side, but the long flight will allow for plenty of naps before arriving back in Seattle at 3:25pm.

How to plan a 4-day trip to Rome, Italy
Delta’s new nonstop from Seattle to Rome makes a short trip to Italy possible.
Upon arrival at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport, take the Leonardo Express train to Roma Termini station in the center of the city. From there, walk or taxi to your hotel, checking into a boutique property like the Hotel Locanda Cairoli for a 3-night stay.
Spend the afternoon exploring the Forum and the Colosseum before crossing over the River Tiber for dinner in Trastevere. The next day, get an early start at St. Peter’s and explore the Vatican, then break for lunch and walk through the historic center to the Pantheon. Get some sunset pictures on the Spanish Steps and at Trevi Fountain.
On the third day, visit the catacombs in the morning and spend the afternoon in relaxing in the gardens of Villa Borghese. Or consider taking a day-trip by train to Florence (1h30 each way).
On your final morning, enjoy a few caffè lattes at a local bar before heading back to Fiumicino to catch your 12:20pm flight to Seattle.
