United Airlines is continuing its 2025 new route launches with San Francisco-Adelaide, South Australia. At 7013 nautical miles, this is one of the longest nonstop flights in the world and will make United the first North American airline to offer service to South Australia.

The nonstop flight from San Francisco takes 15 hours and 55 minutes and departs at 11:05pm — an optimal departure time for minimizing jet lag on this trans-Pacific route. SFO-Adelaide saves passengers at least three-and-a-half hours of travel time versus connecting in Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney.

The inaugural outbound flight is scheduled to depart SFO on Thursday, December 11, 2025, and will operate three times a week until March 28, 2026.

UA 207 / UA 208 is open for booking with United Mileage Plus miles or Aeroplan points.

United uses a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on its 15-hour-and-55-minute flight to Adelaide. The Dreamliner is one of the most comfortable long-haul aircrafts in service, offering larger windows, higher cabin humidity and higher pressurization than most twin-aisle commercial jets.

Seat maps show 257 seats: a 3-3-3 configuration in United Economy (149 seats) and United Economy Plus (39 seats); a 2-3-2 configuration in United Premium Plus (21 seats), and 48 lie-flat United Polaris business class studio seats in a 1-2-1 configuration.

Meal service in Economy includes free snacks, a complimentary meal, non-alcoholic beverages and house beer or wine.

The outbound flight is ideal for encouraging passengers to sleep on board. Returning from Australia to the US, the mid-afternoon departure isn’t as ideal but will still allow for several napping opportunities during the 14-hour-and-50-minute flight before touching down in SFO in the late morning.

How to plan a 5-day trip to Adelaide, Australia

United’s comfortable nonstop from SFO makes a short trip to South Australia possible.

After departing San Francisco on Monday night, arrive Adelaide Wednesday morning and check into a boutique downtown hotel like The Chancellor on Currie for a 3-night stay. Head to the Adelaide Central Market for lunch, then scale the Adelaide Oval via RoofClimb for 360-degree views of the city.

The next day, visit the South Australian Museum or the Art Gallery of South Australia before heading to the Adelaide Zoo.

Make Friday a beach day or visit the Adelaide Botanic Garden. On Saturday morning, head to the Central Market for breakfast and last-minute souvenirs before catching your afternoon flight back to San Francisco.

If you’re comfortable renting a car, Tourism Australia suggests a 5-day itinerary from Adelaide to Kangaroo Island which includes Flinders Chase National Park.
